New York Times Harlem Renaissance Video: Harlem Walk & Talk Featuring Greg Cunningham and Houston White GREG: What's up man? HOUSTON: What it do? GREG: What it do, we’re here in Brooklyn. Brooklyn, BK, Target. GREG: How has your relationship with the bank helped you get here? U.S. Bank, specifically. HOUSTON: It's the quilting of America, man. Like, when you talk about access, the Access Commitment that the bank has made. Like, for me, having apparel here is access. So much about being fresh--growing up is about, like – well, how can I access the type of drip that just speaks for me, right? And when you can move the city, you can move the world. GREG: You're on to something. GREG: It's certainly, certainly good business for us to make sure that communities, much like this community here in Harlem, would share the same type of cultural importance. HOUSTON: Well, like, being here and like, U.S. Bank’s commitment, your personal commitment, right-- To making sure that you're doing business through the lens of culture. That's one of the reasons why I'm proud to be a partner of U.S. Bank. It’s because I feel seen. GREG: Yeah. HOUSTON: I feel like – my community is seen and valued. GREG: nods in agreement-mmhh MARC: You get – people will teach you how to apply for a grant. You get people who will teach you about email marketing, you know, and all that is – I mean, it's beneficial, because we need all the information we can. GREG: To be at a place that's dedicated to researching Black culture, our history – which means it's the research of American history. HOUSTON: Yeah. GREG: 215 years. HOUSTON: That is astounding. GREG: 100 years in Harlem. HOUSTON: That's legacy. GREG: The new renaissance is happening right here. It’s happening right here, right now. HOUSTON: It's intergenerational. It's intercultural. It’s grounded in Black culture, right? GREG: Interindustry. It’s being funded and resourced by businesses who understand the importance of culture and commerce. HOUSTON: Yeah, man. GREG: Every part of our society and sector of business needs to be involved, and we share in that history, and we share an opportunity so that we can continue to live up to the promise that we put on paper and inspire the next generation.
