• Automated investing
  1. If you've chosen automated investing, select Start investing on the next page.
  2. Review the disclaimers and select Continue.
  3. Log in with your username and password and proceed through the application and funding process. 
• Self-directed investing
  1. If you've chosen self-directed investing, select Open a self-directed account on the next page.
  2. Log in with your username and password and proceed through the application and funding process.

Additional information

To apply online, you must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of the United States.

You will need the following information to apply online:

• SSN or ITIN.
• Employment information.
• Valid identification, such as driver’s license or passport.
• Financial information, such as household and net worth.

1. From the U.S. Bank home page, select Personal at the top.
2. Choose Investing and retirement, then select Online investing.

CDs are a great way to save money and have it work for you.

To apply for a CD using digital banking

1. Select Products & offers, then choose Savings & CDs. 
2. Select Certificate of deposit (CDs).
3. Review the offers available. Choose Learn more for additional details.
4. When ready, select Start saving to begin the application process.

When the CD reaches its maturity date, we’ll automatically offer to renew it. Offers stay available until the grace period ends, or when the CD has been renewed, whichever comes first.

Online banking/U.S. Bank Mobile App steps

1. Select the CD account.
   • For online banking, open the notification and select Renew. You can also use the shortcut Explore renewal options on the right side of the page.
   • For mobile banking, choose View renewal information.
2. Choose the radio button for what you’d like to do.
   • If you chose Renew CD for current amount and term, select Continue and proceed to step 3. The APY (annual percentage yield) is figured out when the CD is renewed.
   • If you chose Renew CD with changes, select Continue and go ahead with these steps below.
     1. Select This info is correct, if that’s true. If it’s not, select Edit my info to change it.
     2. Choose how much you’d like to renew.
     3. Open the chevron below "Choose your APY and term” and select the offer you’d like.
     4. Select Calculate return to get an estimate.
     5. When ready, choose Continue.
3. Select how often you want interest payments paid, choose how you want the interest dispersed, and select Continue.
4. Review the request and information. Select Edit next to the information that needs changed and/or choose Submit when you’re ready.

Only personal CDs can be renewed through digital banking; business CDs need to be renewed at one of our branches. You’ll need to have a checking or savings account with us (U.S. Bank) to add or reduce your CD funds digitally.

If you need to add or reduce CD funds and don’t have a checking or savings account with us, call 800-USBANKS (872-2657) or visit a branch. We accept relay calls.

The best time to withdraw funds is when the term of your CD has ended (i.e., matured). By waiting until the CD has matured, you can avoid fees and penalties.
