If you'd like to close your account, we're here to help. We recommend downloading or printing your statements, letters and reports. These documents will no longer be available in your digital banking after the closure.
Here's how to close your account:
By phone*
To close a personal account, please call 800-USBANKS (872-2657). To close a business account, please call 800-673-3555. We accept relay calls. For calls outside the United States, contact us at 503-401-9991. This will be a collect call, and we will accept the charges.
Please note, accounts can't be closed while systems are in overnight processing (generally 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. CT).
Branch
Visit any U.S. Bank branch and speak with a banker. We encourage you to make an appointment to allow time for questions and processing. See also, How do I schedule an appointment at a U.S. Bank branch?
In writing
You can also send a written request. It needs to include your full account number, a message saying you want that account closed, and your signature.
