How do I opt into overdraft coverage and manage it?

Overdraft coverage refers to how we manage ATM and everyday debit card transactions when a deposit account has a negative balance. When the overdraft item is paid, an Overdraft paid fee may be charged.

When you opt into overdraft coverage, or make changes, it isn’t immediate. It takes one to three business days for the updates to happen.

To opt-in or manage overdraft coverage using digital banking

  1. Online banking: Choose your checking account and choose Account. Then select Manage to the right of Overdraft coverage for ATM & debit card. 
    U.S. Bank Mobile App: Choose your checking account and choose Manage. Then select Overdraft resources, then choose Overdraft coverage.
  2. Choose Change coverage. If you have more than one eligible account, use the drop-down menu to select the desired account, then choose “Change coverage”.
  3. Select the applicable checkbox, then choose Continue.
    • Yes, I want ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage on this account. 
      OR
    • No, I don’t want ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage on this account.
  4. Scroll to review the important questions and disclosures. When ready, select Agree and submit.
