How do I send an international wire transfer?

If you have a personal or business deposit account with us (U.S. Bank), you have options when sending an international wire transfer.

Before you send an international wire, please be aware of the following:

  • There is a fee for using this service.
  • Wire transfers are sent and received in U.S. dollars.
  • You can send a same-day transfer between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT on any business day. This means they can’t be scheduled for a future date or on weekends and holidays.

Visit any U.S. Bank branch and let a banker know you’d like to send an international wire transfer.

Online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App - Business deposit accounts only

Customers with business deposit accounts can send international wire transfers conveniently using digital banking.

  1. Select Transfer & pay, choose Wires & ACH, then select Wire money.
  2. Choose a recipient from your list or select Send to one-time recipient. If you chose “Send to one-time recipient”:
    1. Select if you’re sending funds to an individual or a business.
    2. Tell us what country the person’s address is in.
    3. Provide their name and address, then select Continue.
  3. Provide the following details about the recipient’s bank, then select Continue.
    1. Bank location – Tell us what country their bank is in.
    2. SWIFT BIC code – Provide the international routing number for their bank. See also: What does SWIFT stand for when I'm dealing with international wire transfers? and Cracking the SWIFT code.
    3. Account number / IBAN – Enter the recipient’s account number.
  4. Tell us more about the transfer then select Continue.
    1. Use the drop-down menu to select the deposit account to send money from.
    2. Give a brief description of the purpose of the transfer.
    3. Optional: Add additional instructions and/or a memo.
  5. Enter the amount you’d like to send. A fee will be calculated based on the dollar amount entered. Review the fee amount and total. If you accept, select Continue. See alsoHow do I view transaction limits for my accounts?
  6. Review the details. Choose Edit next to any section you’d like to change.
  7. Select Read authorization and review the terms. If you agree, mark the check box next to “I agree to the wire transfer authorization”, and select Send transfer.
