How do I dispute a transaction on my card?

We're here to help. You can start a claim for most transactions using our digital banking services and our automated phone system.

To dispute a transaction using the automated phone system

  1. Call the number on the back of your card.
    • Debit cards: 800-USBANKS (872-2657).
    • Credit cards: 800-285-8585.
  2. Choose the account you’d like to review activity for.
  3. After listening to the activity and identifying a transaction that might need to be disputed, tell the system to start a dispute case.
  4. If the transaction can be disputed digitally, we’ll send you a link by email or text message.
    1. Select the link and log in to get to your Account dashboard in online banking.
    2. Follow the steps below to submit your claim.
  5. If the transaction cannot be disputed digitally, we’ll connect you with the next available banker to start your claim.

To dispute a transaction using online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. Choose the account the charge was made to.
  2. Select the transaction in question to expand the details and choose Dispute this transaction.
  3. Answer the questions to help us determine the reason for your dispute, then select Submit to start your case.

You’ll need to include the following information in your letter.

  • Your name, card number, address, and phone number.
  • The amount of the transaction and the date it posted.
  • The reason for the dispute and why you believe a mistake was made.
