We're here to help. You can start a claim for most transactions using our digital banking services and our automated phone system.
To dispute a transaction using the automated phone system
- Call the number on the back of your card.
- Debit cards: 800-USBANKS (872-2657).
- Credit cards: 800-285-8585.
- Choose the account you’d like to review activity for.
- After listening to the activity and identifying a transaction that might need to be disputed, tell the system to start a dispute case.
- If the transaction can be disputed digitally, we’ll send you a link by email or text message.
- Select the link and log in to get to your Account dashboard in online banking.
- Follow the steps below to submit your claim.
- If the transaction cannot be disputed digitally, we’ll connect you with the next available banker to start your claim.
To dispute a transaction using online banking and the U.S. Bank Mobile App
- Choose the account the charge was made to.
- Select the transaction in question to expand the details and choose Dispute this transaction.
- Answer the questions to help us determine the reason for your dispute, then select Submit to start your case.

You’ll need to include the following information in your letter.
- Your name, card number, address, and phone number.
- The amount of the transaction and the date it posted.
- The reason for the dispute and why you believe a mistake was made.
