Why was the provisional credit reversed on my credit or debit card?

There’s a few reasons a provisional credit can be charged back to an account.

  • If the account owner asks us to cancel their claim, we’ll reverse the credit. This usually happens when the charge is recognized and valid.
  • It can also be reversed if the merchant issues a refund. When that posts, the provisional credit is reversed so there isn’t two credits for the same charge.
  • If the outcome of the investigation finds the transaction is valid, the provisional credit is reversed.

For credit card claims, we issue a provisional credit, so you don’t have to pay for that amount while we research the matter. We also do this for debit card claims, so you can use the funds in question while we do our research.
